Spring Cleaning in a Polish Home.

Spring Cleaning in a Polish Home.

More than a task… a tradition of renewal

In Poland, spring cleaning is not simply about tidying up after a long winter. It is something deeper, something felt in the heart of the home.

After months of cold, when windows stayed closed and days felt shorter, the arrival of spring brings a quiet excitement. The air changes. The light returns. And with it comes the natural desire to refresh everything around us.

Windows are opened wide to welcome fresh air. They are washed carefully, letting the sunlight pour in once again.

Curtains, our delicate firanki are taken down, washed, often bleached to bring back their brightness, and starched so they hang with that familiar, crisp elegance. When they go back up, gently moving with the breeze, the whole home feels lighter… almost new.

But there is one part of this tradition that many of us remember with a smile…

Out in the courtyard stood the trzepak, a simple metal frame, but to us, it was everything. This is where carpets and rugs were taken to be beaten, releasing months of dust into the fresh spring air. The rhythmic sound echoed between buildings, a sure sign that spring had truly arrived.

For children, the trzepak was more than a place for chores; it was a place to play, to climb, to laugh. Even helping felt like an adventure.

Back inside, wooden parquet floors were carefully polished, often by hand, bringing out their deep, warm glow. It was hard work, but it carried a quiet pride.

And yet… this is where the magic happened for us as children 💙
Once the floors were finished, we were allowed to slide across the apartment in our wool socks, laughing, gliding, turning the entire space into our playground.

Every corner was touched. Closets were sorted, shelves cleared, and spaces were reimagined. It was not just cleaning, it was preparing the home for a new season of life.

🌿 In many Polish homes, this tradition was especially meaningful before Easter. It was a way of creating space not only in the home, but within ourselves for renewal, hope, and fresh beginnings.

There is also a quiet moment within this process…
When we pause, holding something we once loved, and gently realize it may be time for it to continue its journey elsewhere.

Some seasonal pieces, cherished decorations, or collections that have filled our homes with beauty over the years…
can now make room for a new season, a new light, a new feeling.

💙 And this is where a different kind of tradition begins…

Through our Collectors Heritage Reserve, these pieces are not simply set aside; they are thoughtfully shared, appreciated, and welcomed into new homes where their story continues.

Because true beauty is never lost…
It simply finds its next chapter.

💙 A fresh home, a fresh table… and always, something beautiful to gather around.
